How to Add Bluetooth to a Custom PC - A Simple Guide

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows devices to connect wirelessly. Bluetooth enabled devices can be connected to each other, and you can use them to access files, audio, or video from another device. You can also use Bluetooth to control various settings on your device.

What are the benefits of adding Bluetooth to a PC?

Bluetooth allows the PC to wirelessly connect to other devices

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows devices to connect without the need for wires.

Bluetooth can be used to connect devices like phones, tablets, and laptops to each other. This enables users to access files, applications, and other features on their other devices without having to physically transfer them.

Bluetooth also allows businesses to improve their customer service by allowing employees to take orders or provide support from anywhere in the office.

Benefits of Bluetooth include increased employee mobility and improved customer service. By understanding these benefits, businesses can decide if adding Bluetooth is a worthwhile investment.

Adding Bluetooth functionality to a PC can also allow gamers to use devices and controllers whilst gaming.

Bluetooth is more secure than other wireless technologies

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that uses short-range radio waves to connect devices.

Bluetooth is more secure than other wireless technologies because it doesn't use the same frequency as other wireless technologies, such as Wi-Fi and mobile networks. This means that Bluetooth devices can't be easily detected and tracked by others. Additionally, Bluetooth doesn't transmit data in the clear like Wi-Fi and mobile networks do, which makes it safer for your data to be transmitted.

The benefits of using Bluetooth instead of other wireless technologies include: enhanced security, decreased data usage, and faster connection speeds.

Bluetooth is compatible with a wide range of devices

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows devices to connect to each other.

Bluetooth is compatible with a wide range of devices, including laptops, tablets, smartphones, and even cars. This compatibility makes it easy to wirelessly share files, access the internet, and make phone calls without having to remove any cables.

Adding Bluetooth to a PC can improve the overall experience by making it easier to connect with various devices. For example, if you have a laptop and a tablet, you can easily wirelessly transfer files between the two devices.

By making life easier and more convenient for users, Bluetooth offers many benefits that are worth taking advantage of.

How to add Bluetooth to a Custom PC - a simple guide

How to check if your computer has Bluetooth?

To check if your computer has Bluetooth, search for "Bluetooth" in the search box and you should see "Bluetooth and other Device Settings", click on it,and it will take you to the settings page which if you have Bluetooth will have a button to add Bluetooth, but also underneath will state Bluetooth with an on/off button. If you do not have bluetooth then there will be no on/off button, only the button to add Bluetooth. Note: the Add Bluetooth button will not work if you dont have a Bluetooth adapter connected...

Find a Bluetooth Adapter

You really have 2 choices to add Bluetooth, first is an external USB adapter, second will be an internal PCI-E card which needs to be fitted into your computer. Our advice is to go with the easier USB adapter, as normally it is just plug and play.

If you are looking to add an internal Bluetooth adapter, you need to check what PCI-E slots you have spare on your motherboard, then buy an adapter that will fit in that slow, most modern boards will be PCI-E. Most internal bluetooth cards are incorporated into High speed Wifi cards, so they will be more expensive than a USB device.

You can buy adapters online or at your local PC store.

Install the Bluetooth Adapter to Your Computer

Once you have the adapter and device, you'll need to install the adapter. If you have Windows 10 or 11 normally it will recognise the adapter and install the relevant software/drivers. If Windows does not recognise the adapter automatically, then you will need to install the drivers supplied with the adapter.

For a USB Bluetooth adapter, it is normally just a case of plugging it into a spare USB slot and thats it... ready to go.

To add a PCI-E Bluetooth adapter to a computer, you'll need to open the PC, find a spare slot, insert the card into the slot and secure it via a screw to the chassis. You will then need to close everything back up, and switch on the PC to test.

If Windows does not recognise your Bluetooth adapter, you may have to install any software that was supplied with your adapter in order to supply Windows with the relevant drivers.

Once you have installed the adapter, open Windows Update and install the latest drivers for your device.
