Entry Flight Sim Gaming PC

G6 Sonic FSX1: The Entry Point into Serious Flight Sim

The G6 Sonic FSX1 is Ginger6’s entry-tier flight simulation PC, built around the Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF (14 cores, 5.2 GHz boost) and the NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 8GB. It is engineered for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, X-Plane 12, DCS World, and Prepar3D at 1080p and 1440p, which is where most pilots fly. Hand-built in Wolverhampton and 24-hour stress-tested before it ships.

It sits at the start of our flight simulator PC range within our wider Ginger6 gaming PC catalogue, paired with an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and the Intel Core Ultra 5 platform. The FSX1 serves as the foundation for a mid-to-high-range Intel Gaming PC, sitting inside the wider simulation titles range. The 245KF is the new-generation entry chip that pulls ahead of older i5 silicon in every sim workload that matters: scenery tile streaming, weather systems, AI traffic, and the single-thread bursts that simulators rely on.

Not sure if the FSX1 is right for your setup, or whether you should step up to the FSX2 with the Core Ultra 7 265KF and 16GB RTX 5060 Ti? Call Kevin on 01902 714533. He flies sims himself and will give you a straight answer about which spec your monitor, scenery library, and aircraft choice actually need.

Component Detail

Why Each Component Was Chosen

Every component in the FSX1 was selected with flight simulation in mind. Here is what each part does and why it matters for sim performance at this price point. Compare the choices with other Flight Sim builds in the range if you want context on tier differences.

Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF: Processor

The Ultra 5 245KF is Intel’s new-generation entry chip and a strong sim CPU. 14 cores (6 Performance + 8 Efficiency) and a 5.2 GHz boost handle the single-thread bursts that flight simulators care about, while the Efficiency cores keep background work (Discord, ATC clients, browser tabs) out of the sim’s way. It pulls ahead of the older i5 14600KF in MSFS 2024 scenery streaming. Upgradeable to the Core Ultra 7 265KF for more headroom.

NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 8GB: Graphics Card

The RTX 5060 Ti is the GPU that makes 1080p Ultra and 1440p High in MSFS 2024 practical at this price. DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation closes the gap to higher tiers in demanding scenery. 8GB VRAM is comfortable for stock MSFS 2024, X-Plane 12, and DCS World at 1080p / 1440p. If you fly mostly photogrammetry cities, run heavy payware airports, or plan to add ortho scenery packs, step up to the 16GB version on the FSX2 or to the RTX 5070 on the FSX3.

16GB DDR5 5200MHz (2x8GB) Dual Channel: Memory

16GB arrives as a 2x8GB dual-channel memory kit, which is the right baseline for MSFS 2024 at 1080p and 1440p with stock scenery and a modest add-on library. The dual-channel configuration matters: it doubles effective memory bandwidth versus a single stick, and the 245KF needs that bandwidth for scenery tile loading. Upgradeable to a 32GB (2x16GB) or 64GB (2x32GB) dual-channel kit if you plan to run heavy ortho scenery, complex payware aircraft, or VR.

2 × 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD: Dual Storage

Dual NVMe drives are standard rather than a single larger drive for good reason. Running Windows and the simulator on one drive while storing scenery, payware airports, and liveries on a second drive cuts loading conflicts and keeps your add-on library tidy. MSFS 2024 with a few payware airports already uses 100–200GB; X-Plane with ortho scenery adds hundreds more. The B860M DS3H supports up to 4 M.2 NVMe drives, configurable above.

Gigabyte B860M DS3H WIFI6E: Motherboard

The B860M DS3H WIFI6E provides Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, USB Type-C, and four USB 3.2 Type-A ports. For flight sim users with a yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals, and a headset, the rear-panel USB provision matters. Upgradeable to the Gigabyte Z890 UD WIFI6E for next-generation platform features and Wi-Fi 7 if you select the Core Ultra 7 above.

240mm AIO Liquid Cooler: Processor Cooling

A 240mm AIO is the right cooler for the Ultra 5 245KF under sustained sim load. ARGB fans are included as standard. Flight simulation drives CPU temperature higher than typical gaming because the simulator runs full-burn for hours rather than minutes. The 240mm radiator gives the headroom the 245KF needs to hold boost clocks without throttling. Upgradeable to a 360mm AIO above for users planning to overclock or move to a higher-TDP CPU.

650W 80+ Bronze PSU: Power Supply

The 650W unit provides adequate headroom for the base configuration with margin to spare. All Ginger6 PSUs come from established manufacturers. Budget PSUs are one of the most common failure points in self-builds and we do not use them. If you upgrade to the RTX 5070 Ti or 5080, we recommend stepping up to the 850W or 1000W Corsair Gold unit, configurable above.

Connectivity: Ports & Networking

The B860M DS3H provides 2 USB 2.0, 4 USB 3.2 Type-A, 1 Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth. The RTX 5060 Ti adds 3 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI output, supporting up to four displays. For a fully equipped sim setup with yoke, throttle, rudder pedals, headset, and TrackIR, we recommend adding a 4-port USB 3.0 expansion card via the PCI-E Slot 2 option, or using a powered USB hub.

Why This Build

The Entry-Tier Flight Sim PC Done Right

Flight simulation is one of the most hardware-intensive PC workloads available. The FSX1 is built specifically for the sim pilot starting at 1080p or 1440p, not as a generic gaming machine with a sim sticker on it.

1080p Ultra and 1440p High Ready

The RTX 5060 Ti 8GB with DLSS 4 delivers a smooth 60 fps and beyond in MSFS 2024 at 1080p Ultra and 1440p High, the most popular monitor resolutions for sim entrants. DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation makes demanding scenery practical.

Ultra 5 245KF for Sim Single-Thread

The 245KF’s 5.2 GHz Performance cores are well suited to the single-threaded bursts MSFS 2024, X-Plane 12, and Prepar3D all rely on for scenery streaming and weather updates. Efficiency cores keep background apps off the sim’s critical path.

Dual NVMe for Add-Ons

A dedicated second NVMe for scenery, payware airports, and liveries keeps your OS drive clean and reduces I/O conflicts during long flights. Faster load times, fewer stutters during terrain transitions.

Wi-Fi 6E and Plenty of USB

Wi-Fi 6E plus 6 rear USB ports handle the typical entry sim setup: yoke, throttle, rudder pedals, headset, TrackIR. Add a 4-port USB expansion card above if you build out to a full home cockpit.

Sim Setup Support Included

We don’t just build and ship. Call Kevin after delivery and he will help with graphics settings, controller configuration, add-on installation, and performance tuning for your specific simulator.

Upgrade Path from Day One

The LGA1851 platform, multiple M.2 slots, and PSU headroom make this a machine you can grow with. Add RAM, storage, or step up to the RTX 5070 Ti when your scenery library demands it. Step up today to the FSX2 if you want 16GB VRAM out of the box.

Simulator Compatibility

What Will It Run, and How Well?

The G6 Sonic FSX1 is configured to deliver smooth performance across every major flight simulator at 1080p and 1440p.

Commercial aircraft in flight
Primary Use Case
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

MSFS 2024 at 1080p Ultra runs comfortably on the FSX1, with DLSS 4 keeping frame rates smooth in dense scenery. At 1440p, High settings with DLSS 4 Quality delivers a clean flying experience even with mid-tier payware airports and AI traffic. For 4K Ultra or VR, the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB will reach its limits; consider the FSX2 (16GB) or FSX3 (RTX 5070) for that workload.

Aircraft cockpit view
Also Optimised For
X-Plane 12

X-Plane 12’s Vulkan renderer scales well with the RTX 5060 Ti at 1080p / 1440p, including with smaller ortho scenery packages. The dual NVMe configuration handles ortho file streaming without I/O stuttering.

Military aircraft
Combat Simulation
DCS World

DCS World runs well on the FSX1 at 1080p / 1440p in single-player and small multiplayer missions. For large multiplayer or VR, the 8GB VRAM and single-thread headroom limit how far you can push graphics settings. Step up to the FSX2 or FSX3 if you fly mostly DCS in VR.

Cockpit instruments
Classic Simulation
Prepar3D & FSX

Prepar3D and FSX are single-threaded legacy simulators that benefit from the Ultra 5 245KF’s 5.2 GHz boost. These simulators run noticeably better on the 245KF than on older multi-core CPUs with lower individual core speeds.

FAQ

Questions About the G6 Sonic FSX1

At 1080p, yes. Ultra settings in MSFS 2024 are achievable with the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and Ultra 5 245KF combination, particularly with DLSS 4 enabled. At 1440p, High settings with DLSS 4 Quality will deliver smooth frame rates. For 4K Ultra or VR, the 8GB VRAM and Ultra 5 will reach their limits; the FSX2 (RTX 5060 Ti 16GB) or FSX3 (RTX 5070) are better suited.
For entry-level VR with a Meta Quest 3 at standard quality settings, yes. For more demanding VR (Pimax Crystal, Varjo, or MSFS 2024 in VR with payware airports), the 8GB VRAM and Ultra 5 will be tight. Most serious VR pilots step up to the FSX2 or higher. Call Kevin with your headset and flight style for a frank assessment.
Flight simulators with large add-on libraries benefit from separating the OS and simulator installation from the add-on and scenery storage. Running your sim on one NVMe drive and your Orbx scenery, payware airports, and liveries on a second dedicated drive reduces I/O conflicts, speeds up loading times, and makes it easier to manage your add-on library. Modern flight sims regularly require 200–500GB of storage for a fully equipped setup. Dual NVMe gives you that space efficiently.
The base configuration provides 6 rear USB ports (2x USB 2.0, 4x USB 3.2 Type-A) plus front panel headers. For a fully equipped sim setup with a yoke, throttle, rudder pedals, headset, and TrackIR, we recommend adding the 4-port USB 3.0 expansion card available in the PCI-E Slot 2 option above, or using a powered USB hub.
Yes. The LGA1851 socket supports current and next-generation Intel Core Ultra processors. The B860M DS3H has multiple M.2 slots and four DDR5 RAM slots supporting up to 128GB. The 650W PSU provides headroom for GPU upgrades up to the RTX 5070 Ti; upgrading to an RTX 5080 or 5090 would also need a PSU upgrade. If you prefer to step up to the next tier today, the FSX2 with the Core Ultra 7 265KF and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the natural next step. Call Kevin when you are ready to upgrade.
The standard Bronze warranty covers 1 year of parts and labour plus 2 additional years of labour-only cover. The Silver option extends parts and labour cover to 2 years. The Gold option provides full parts and labour cover for all 3 years, giving complete peace of mind for the lifetime of the warranty. All options include lifetime free UK phone support.
