Four Things on the Graphics Card Side

1. The Driver Version
A game-ready driver released alongside a major title carries optimisations specific to it, and the difference on launch-window titles is real rather than marketing. Keep it current. The one caveat: expect an hour of shader recompilation hitching after each update, which is normal and settles.
2. Upscaling
DLSS on an Nvidia card, FSR on an AMD card. TechSpot measured around a 40 percent gain moving from native to Quality upscaling in Battlefield 6, which makes it the single largest frame rate gain available without lowering picture quality you would notice in motion. Quality mode first. One caveat worth knowing: it does not rescue a card that has run out of video memory.
3. Thermals
A card that reaches its temperature limit reduces its own clock speed to protect itself, and you experience that as a frame rate that starts strong and sags after ten minutes. 4. Video Memory
Not a tuning option, a hard limit. When the card runs out it hitches rather than slowing down, and no driver setting recovers it. TechSpot found upscaling does not fix it either, because the shortfall is memory rather than rendering load. The only fixes are lowering texture quality or fitting a card with more memory.

Is Your Card Throttling?
Of everything on this page, thermal throttling is the one that catches people out, because it does not look like a heat problem. The other common false lead is storage speed, which produces hitching people blame on the graphics card. It looks like the game getting worse the longer you play.
A graphics card protects itself by reducing its own clock speed as it approaches its temperature limit. The first ten minutes of a session are fine, because the card is still cool. Twenty minutes in, it has heat-soaked the case and started backing off, and your frame rate has quietly dropped without anything changing on screen. People usually blame the game, or a patch, or the server.
The test is straightforward. Watch the graphics card temperature and clock speed while you play a long session. If the temperature climbs toward the card's limit and the clock speed falls as it does, that is throttling. If the temperature is comfortable and the clock speed is steady, your card is simply performing at its ceiling and the answer lies elsewhere.
Where it is throttling, the fix is airflow rather than settings: intake and exhaust that move air through the case, a card that is not pressed against a solid panel, and dust cleared out of the heatsink. This is also where cable management stops being cosmetic. Nothing here can damage anything or void anything. It covers the large majority of the performance available on the graphics card side, and it is what we would suggest to anyone who rang and asked.
Undervolting
A legitimate technique that helps a thermally limited card, and one plenty of people run successfully. It also takes patience and repeated stability testing to get right, and a setting that seems fine for a week will crash in a busy round.
Worth doing if you enjoy that. Not worth doing if you want to play.
