Description

Intel Core Ultra 7 Flight Sim Gaming PC

G6 Sonic FSX2: The 20-Core Mid-Tier Sim Machine

The G6 Sonic FSX2 is Ginger6’s mid-tier flight simulation PC, built around the Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF (8 Performance + 12 Efficiency cores, 5.5 GHz boost, Arrow Lake LGA1851) and the NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM. It is the build for the sim pilot who has outgrown 8GB cards and wants a serious step up in scenery headroom, payware aircraft, and AI traffic at 1440p without the flagship price tag. Hand-built in Wolverhampton and 24-hour stress-tested before it ships.

It sits in the middle of our flight simulator PC range, within the wider simulation titles catalogue, alongside the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and the Intel Core Ultra 7 platform. Browse the full Ginger6 gaming PC catalogue, the wider Intel Gaming PC range, or the 1440p gaming PCs shortlist for context. The 16GB VRAM is what changes the buying calculus: ortho scenery packs, photogrammetry cities, and high-resolution liveries that strain an 8GB card become comfortable on this build.

Not sure whether to step up from the FSX1 or take the further step up to the FSX3 with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D? Call Kevin on 01902 714533. He flies sims himself and will give you a straight answer about whether the 16GB VRAM, 20 cores, and 360mm cooler on the FSX2 match the way you actually fly.

Component Detail

Why Each Component Was Chosen

Every component in the FSX2 was selected for sim workloads, not generic gaming. Here is what each part does and why it matters for serious mid-tier flight simulation. Compare the choices with other Flight Sim builds in the range if you want context on tier differences.

Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF: Processor

The Core Ultra 7 265KF is Intel’s Arrow Lake desktop chip on LGA1851. 8 Performance cores and 12 Efficiency cores for 20 cores and 20 threads, boosting to 5.5 GHz on a single P-core. That single-thread speed is what matters most for MSFS 2024 scenery streaming, AI traffic, and weather systems, while the Efficiency cores absorb background loads (Discord, browser, VATSIM voice) without bleeding into the sim. Unlocked for overclocking. For the i9 24-core step up with RTX 5080, see the FSX5.

NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 16GB: Graphics Card

The 16GB variant of the RTX 5060 Ti is the headline upgrade over the FSX1. 16GB VRAM means you can run high-resolution textures, ortho scenery, and photogrammetry cities without VRAM pressure causing texture pop-in or stutter. DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation gives the rest of the headroom you need at 1440p Ultra. For 4K Ultra or VR with payware airports, the RTX 5070 on the FSX3 is the next logical step.

16GB DDR5 5200MHz (2x8GB) Dual Channel: Memory

16GB arrives as a 2x8GB dual-channel memory kit. Dual-channel matters: it doubles the effective bandwidth versus a single stick, and the 265KF needs that bandwidth for scenery tile loading. 16GB is the right baseline for MSFS 2024 at 1440p with a modest add-on library. Upgradeable to a 32GB (2x16GB) or 64GB (2x32GB) dual-channel kit if you plan to add heavy ortho scenery, run VR, or run flight sim alongside streaming and recording software.

2 × 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD: Dual Storage

Dual NVMe drives are standard rather than a single larger drive for a real reason. Separating the OS and simulator onto one drive while storing add-ons, scenery, and liveries on a second drive cuts loading conflicts and keeps the add-on library tidy. MSFS 2024 with payware airports and a regional scenery pack already consumes 200–400GB. The B860M DS3H supports up to 4 M.2 NVMe drives, configurable above.

Gigabyte B860M DS3H WIFI6E: Motherboard

The B860M DS3H WIFI6E provides Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, USB Type-C, and four USB 3.2 Type-A ports on the Arrow Lake LGA1851 platform. For sim users running a yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals, headset, and TrackIR, rear-panel USB matters. The LGA1851 socket supports Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 upgrades on the same board. Upgradeable to the Gigabyte Z890 UD WIFI6E for next-generation platform headroom if you step up to the Core Ultra 9 above.

360mm AIO Liquid Cooler: Processor Cooling

The Core Ultra 7 265KF runs cooler than the equivalent 14th-gen K-series under sustained load; Arrow Lake’s efficiency means the 360mm AIO gives it clear headroom to hold full boost clocks across a long-haul flight without throttling. ARGB fans included as standard. Multiple cooler options available above for users preferring a branded unit such as the Corsair Nautilus 360.

750W 80+ Bronze PSU: Power Supply

The 750W unit gives appropriate headroom for the Core Ultra 7 265KF + RTX 5060 Ti pairing with margin to spare for sustained workloads. Budget PSUs are one of the most common failure points in self-builds and we do not use them. If you upgrade to the RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, step up to the 850W or 1000W Corsair Gold unit, configurable above.

Connectivity: Ports & Networking

The B860M DS3H provides 2 USB 2.0, 4 USB 3.2 Type-A, 1 USB Type-C, Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth. The RTX 5060 Ti adds 3 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI output for up to four-display setups. For full home-cockpit configurations with 6+ USB peripherals, we recommend the 4-port USB 3.0 expansion card via the PCI-E Slot 2 option above.

Why This Build

Built for Serious 1440p Flight Sim

The FSX2 is the build for the sim pilot who has outgrown an 8GB card and a 6-core CPU. Here is what separates it from the FSX1 below and the FSX3 above.

16GB VRAM Changes the Game

The headline difference over the FSX1 is the 16GB version of the RTX 5060 Ti. Ortho scenery, photogrammetry cities, and high-resolution liveries that pressure an 8GB card become comfortable. This is the smallest GPU we recommend for serious mid-tier sim use in 2026.

20 Cores for Modern Sim Workloads

The Core Ultra 7 265KF’s 20 cores (8P + 12E) handle MSFS 2024 plus Simbrief, Navigraph, VATSIM, OBS recording, and Discord without the sim noticing. Background load goes to Efficiency cores; Performance cores stay on the sim’s critical path.

Dual NVMe for Add-On Sprawl

A dedicated second NVMe for scenery, payware airports, and liveries keeps your OS drive clean and reduces I/O conflicts during long flights. Faster terrain transitions and fewer stutters in dense areas.

360mm Cooler for Sustained Load

A 360mm AIO gives the Core Ultra 7 265KF clear thermal headroom for flight sim hours at a time. Arrow Lake’s efficiency means the cooler runs quiet at long-haul load. The thermal headroom protects sustained frame rate without throttling.

Sim Setup Support Included

We don’t just build and ship. Call Kevin after delivery and he will help with graphics settings, controller configuration, add-on installation, and performance tuning for your specific simulator, aircraft, and scenery combination.

Strong Upgrade Path

LGA1851 socket, four DDR5 slots, multiple M.2 slots, and PSU headroom for an RTX 5070 Ti. The FSX2 is a machine you can step up gradually rather than replace. Or step up today to the FSX3 if you want the RTX 5070 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D built in.

Simulator Compatibility

What Will It Run, and How Well?

The G6 Sonic FSX2 is configured for serious 1440p sim performance with practical 4K and entry-level VR options.

Commercial aircraft in flight
Primary Use Case
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

MSFS 2024 at 1440p Ultra runs smoothly on the FSX2 thanks to the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti, DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, and the 265KF’s single-thread headroom on Arrow Lake. 1080p Ultra is comfortably maxed. At 4K, High settings with DLSS 4 Performance is achievable in most scenarios; for guaranteed 4K Ultra and serious VR, step up to the FSX3 or FSX4.

Aircraft cockpit view
Also Optimised For
X-Plane 12

X-Plane 12’s Vulkan renderer scales well with the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at 1440p, including with substantial ortho scenery libraries. The 16GB VRAM lets you push texture quality higher than the FSX1 allows.

Military aircraft
Combat Simulation
DCS World

DCS World runs smoothly at 1440p on the FSX2 in both single-player and most multiplayer missions. The 16GB VRAM and 20-core Core Ultra 7 265KF cover the AI unit management that makes DCS heavy in busy missions. Entry-level VR (Meta Quest 3) is practical at medium settings.

Cockpit instruments
Classic Simulation
Prepar3D & FSX

Prepar3D and legacy FSX benefit enormously from the Core Ultra 7 265KF’s 5.5 GHz single-thread boost on Arrow Lake. These older simulators remain primarily single-threaded, and the high individual core speed delivers a tangible improvement over older multi-core CPUs.

FAQ

Questions About the G6 Sonic FSX2

At 1440p, yes. Ultra settings in MSFS 2024 are achievable with the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and Core Ultra 7 265KF combination, particularly with DLSS 4 enabled. At 4K, High settings with DLSS 4 Quality will deliver smooth frame rates. For guaranteed 4K Ultra and serious VR, step up to the FSX3 or higher.
The FSX1 uses the Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF with the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti and 240mm cooler. The FSX2 steps up to the Core Ultra 7 265KF (20 cores vs 14, 5.5 GHz vs 5.2 GHz), the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti, and a 360mm cooler. The headline difference is the 16GB VRAM, which is decisive for ortho scenery, photogrammetry cities, and high-resolution liveries. The 265KF’s extra cores and higher Turbo also pull ahead under multi-app load (sim + streaming + voice).
Yes, for entry-level and mid-level VR. The 16GB VRAM gives more headroom than the FSX1. With a Meta Quest 3 or HP Reverb G2 at medium settings, MSFS 2024 in VR is practical. For Pimax Crystal or Varjo, the RTX 5070 on the FSX3 or higher is recommended. Call Kevin with your headset model and flying habits for a frank assessment.
Flight simulators with large add-on libraries benefit from separating the OS and simulator installation from the add-on and scenery storage. Running your sim on one NVMe drive and your Orbx scenery, payware airports, and liveries on a second dedicated drive reduces I/O conflicts, speeds up loading times, and makes it easier to manage your add-on library. Modern flight sims regularly require 200–500GB of storage for a fully equipped setup. Dual NVMe gives you that space efficiently.
Yes. The LGA1851 socket supports Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 upgrades on the same B860M DS3H WIFI6E board. The board has multiple M.2 slots and four DDR5 RAM slots supporting up to 128GB. The 750W PSU provides headroom for GPU upgrades up to the RTX 5070 Ti; upgrading to an RTX 5080 or 5090 would also need a PSU upgrade. If you want to step up today, the FSX3 (Ryzen 7 9800X3D + RTX 5070) is the natural next step. Call Kevin when you are ready to upgrade.
The standard Bronze warranty covers 1 year of parts and labour plus 2 additional years of labour-only cover. The Silver option extends parts and labour cover to 2 years. The Gold option provides full parts and labour cover for all 3 years, giving complete peace of mind for the lifetime of the warranty. All options include lifetime free UK phone support.
