Intel i9 Flight Sim Gaming PC

G6 Sonic FSX5: The 24-Core Flight Sim Flagship

The G6 Sonic FSX5 is Ginger6’s i9 flagship flight simulation PC, built around the Intel Core i9 14900KF (24 cores, 6.0 GHz Turbo) and the NVIDIA RTX 5080 16GB. This is the build for the sim pilot who wants 4K Ultra everywhere, serious VR comfort, and the multi-thread headroom to fly the sim plus stream, record, and run cockpit software simultaneously without the simulator noticing. Hand-built in Wolverhampton and 24-hour stress-tested before despatch.

It sits at the top of the i9 + Z790 line within our flight simulator PC range within our wider Ginger6 gaming PC catalogue, paired with the RTX 5080 16GB on the Intel Core i9 platform. The 14900KF’s 6.0 GHz single-thread Turbo is the speed flight simulators care about most, and 24 cores cover everything else you can put on the screen at the same time.

Unsure whether the FSX5 is enough, or whether you should step up to the FSX6 with the RTX 5090 32GB? Call Kevin on 01902 714533. He flies sims himself and will give you a straight answer about whether your scenery, payware airports, and headset combination genuinely need the next tier.

Component Detail

Why Each Component Was Chosen

Every component in the FSX5 was selected for serious flight simulation workloads with comfortable headroom at flagship-tier resolutions. Here is what each part does and why it matters when you push to 4K Ultra, VR, or full home cockpits.

Intel Core i9 14900KF: Processor

The i9 14900KF combines 8 Performance cores and 16 Efficiency cores for 24 cores and 32 threads, boosting to 6.0 GHz with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost. Single-thread speed matters enormously in flight simulators, which rely on fast individual core performance for scenery tile management, AI traffic, and weather systems. Unlocked for overclocking. The same 14900KF appears on the FSX6 paired with the RTX 5090 for users who need the next GPU tier up.

NVIDIA RTX 5080 16GB: Graphics Card

The RTX 5080 is the GPU that makes 4K Ultra in MSFS 2024 a comfortable proposition with payware airports, ortho scenery, and live weather. 16GB VRAM removes the memory pressure that limits lower tiers in photogrammetry cities. DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation can more than double effective frame rates in the most demanding areas. For absolute peak headroom (8K outputs, triple 4K cockpits, Pimax Crystal at maximum quality), the RTX 5090 32GB on the FSX6 is the only step up.

2 × 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD: Dual Storage

Dual NVMe drives are standard. Running Windows and the simulator on one drive while keeping add-ons, scenery, and liveries on a second cuts loading conflicts and keeps the add-on library tidy. MSFS 2024 installations with full add-on libraries routinely exceed 300GB; X-Plane 12 with ortho scenery and DCS World with multiple modules push that higher still. The Z790 D AX supports up to 4 M.2 NVMe drives including Gen 4 and Gen 5 options, configurable above.

32GB Kingston Fury DDR5 5200MHz: Memory

32GB arrives as a 2x16GB dual-channel memory kit, the correct baseline for serious 4K and VR MSFS 2024 use. The simulator regularly uses 24–28GB with a full add-on package in complex scenery, and DCS World in VR can approach similar figures. Kingston Fury DDR5 at 5200MHz delivers the bandwidth the Z790 platform is designed for. Upgradeable to a 64GB (2x32GB) dual-channel kit if you also use the machine for video editing or run extreme scenery setups.

Gigabyte Z790 D AX: Motherboard

The Z790 D AX provides built-in Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, 2.5 GbE LAN, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C (20 Gbps), and four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the rear panel. For flight sim users running a yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals, TrackIR, and headset simultaneously, rear-panel USB provision matters. Upgradeable to the Z790 Aorus Elite for enhanced audio and connectivity.

360mm AIO Liquid Cooler: Processor Cooling

The i9 14900KF is a high-power processor that runs hot under sustained load, particularly in dense add-on environments where flight sim drives CPU and GPU hard for hours at a time. A 360mm AIO provides the thermal headroom to sustain full boost clocks throughout a long-haul flight without throttling. ARGB fans are included as standard and complement the Corsair 3000D Black case lighting. Multiple cooler options including the Corsair Nautilus 360 are available above.

Corsair RM850e 850W 80+ Gold: Power Supply

The Corsair RM850e is a fully modular 80+ Gold PSU with the appropriate headroom for the i9 + RTX 5080 pairing under sustained flight sim load. Fully modular cabling allows clean routing and improved airflow. Upgradeable to the Corsair RM1000 or HX1200 Platinum if you plan to upgrade to an RTX 5090 in future or run a particularly power-hungry future configuration.

Connectivity: Ports & Networking

The Z790 D AX rear panel provides 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 4x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 4x USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, and 2.5 GbE LAN. The RTX 5080 provides 1x HDMI 2.1 and 3x DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, supporting up to four displays at 4K simultaneously. For users running more than four USB peripherals, a 4-port USB 3.0 expansion card is available via the PCI-E Slot 2 option above.

Why This Build

The 4K Flight Sim Sweet Spot

The FSX5 is the build for sim pilots who want 4K Ultra performance and serious VR comfort without committing to the RTX 5090 price tag. Here is what separates it from the tier below and the tier above.

4K Ultra in MSFS 2024

The RTX 5080 with DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation makes 4K Ultra in MSFS 2024 genuinely playable in payware airports and dense scenery. The RTX 5070 Ti on the FSX4 can do 4K High; the FSX5 lifts that to 4K Ultra with comfortable headroom. See our 4K gaming PC range for context.

Serious VR Headroom

Most GPUs in VR flight sim spend time reprojecting. The RTX 5080 keeps reprojection rare across MSFS 2024, DCS World, and X-Plane 12. For Pimax Crystal Light, HP Reverb G2, and Meta Quest 3 at high quality, this is the comfort line.

24 Cores for Everything at Once

The i9 14900KF’s 24-core design (8P + 16E) means flight sim, Simbrief, Navigraph, VATSIM voice, streaming, and recording can all run simultaneously without the simulator noticing. Efficiency cores handle background; Performance cores focus on the sim.

6.0 GHz Turbo for Legacy Sims

Prepar3D and legacy FSX still run single-threaded code paths. The 14900KF’s 6.0 GHz Turbo is the highest individual core speed in any consumer chip. Older sims run noticeably better on the i9 than on slower-clocked alternatives.

Full-Modular Corsair Gold PSU

The Corsair RM850e is fully modular for clean cable routing, 80+ Gold rated for cool and quiet operation under load, and has the headroom for an RTX 5090 upgrade in future if you decide to step up.

Sim Setup Support Included

Call Kevin after delivery for graphics settings, controller calibration, add-on installation, and performance tuning for your specific simulator, aircraft, scenery library, and display configuration. Lifetime UK phone support, not a chatbot or ticket queue.

Simulator Compatibility

What It’s Like to Fly on the G6 Sonic FSX5

The FSX5 is optimised for every major flight simulator at flagship-tier settings. Here is what you can expect from each one.

Commercial aircraft in flight above clouds
Primary Target
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

At 4K with Ultra settings (DLSS 4 Quality), the RTX 5080 and i9 14900KF deliver frame rates comfortably above 60 fps in demanding scenery, photogrammetry cities, and during complex approaches. DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation pushes those numbers significantly higher. For 4K Ultra in literally every scenario including the heaviest payware airports, the next-tier RTX 5090 is the natural step up.

Aircraft cockpit instruments and displays
VR Flight Simulation
Comfortable VR Across All Major Headsets

The RTX 5080 is the GPU that makes serious VR flight sim genuinely comfortable. Reprojection becomes rare even in demanding areas. Pimax Crystal Light, HP Reverb G2, Meta Quest 3, and Varjo Aero all run smoothly at high quality. For Pimax Crystal at maximum quality with extreme detail, the FSX6 RTX 5090 has additional headroom.

Military fighter jet aircraft in flight
Combat Simulation
DCS World

DCS World is extremely demanding in VR and in large multiplayer missions. The i9 14900KF’s 6.0 GHz single-thread performance handles mission scripting and AI unit management; the RTX 5080 maintains high frame rates through complex, weather-heavy, multi-unit scenarios. For DCS pilots, the FSX5 is a step change in comfort over mid-tier builds.

Aircraft on approach with runway lights at night
Classic & Professional
X-Plane 12 & Prepar3D

X-Plane 12’s Vulkan renderer scales well with the RTX 5080, and large orthophoto scenery packages are handled cleanly by the dual NVMe configuration. Prepar3D and legacy FSX benefit from the 14900KF’s 6.0 GHz single-thread Turbo. These older simulators remain primarily single-threaded; fast individual cores make a tangible difference.

Peripherals That Match This Machine

The FSX5 drives any peripheral combination you can throw at it. Here is what Ginger6 customers typically pair with a machine at this tier, and what to think about when choosing.

Monitor & Display Setup

The RTX 5080 supports up to four displays. A single 4K 144Hz monitor is the popular pairing at this tier. For wide-view immersion, a triple 1440p arrangement works well; for serious cockpits, triple 4K is within reach. Call Kevin for a recommendation for your specific simulator and desk setup.

Yoke, HOTAS & Throttle

The FSX5 handles any USB controller combination without USB bandwidth issues. Popular choices at this level include the Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, Thrustmaster TCA Airbus, Virpil MongoosT-50 for combat sim, and the WinWing Orion 2 for serious DCS pilots.

VR Headset

The RTX 5080 is the GPU that makes serious VR flight sim genuinely comfortable. Compatible with Meta Quest 3, HP Reverb G2, Pimax Crystal Light, and Varjo Aero via USB or DisplayPort. Call Kevin to discuss the best headset for your use case and budget.

Headset & Audio

For flight sim, a good headset transforms ATC communication and ambient immersion. USB headsets work out of the box. For audiophile-level audio, an ASUS STRIX SOAR soundcard is available via the PCI-E Slot 2 option above and pairs well with open-back headphones for long-haul realism.

Rudder Pedals

Rudder pedals are the most impactful peripheral upgrade for fixed-wing realism. Popular choices include the Thrustmaster TFRP, CH Products Pro Pedals, and the MFG Crosswind for precision. All connect via USB and are fully supported.

Head Tracking

Head tracking via TrackIR or Tobii Eye Tracker 5 adds a further dimension of immersion without the cost and setup of full VR. Both are plug and play with MSFS 2024, X-Plane 12, and DCS World.
